Dear Colleagues and Friends of Wernyol, Southern Sudan:

It is with the deepest gratitude that I write to you, to thank you for your generosity in the face of a tragedy that occurred in Wernyol, Southern Sudan during late summer and early fall of 2009. The Abek Community Development Program (ACDP) has completely shifted its attention to focus on that emergency. Your quick response to our plea for support has allowed us to utilize our network on the ground in Southern Sudan and mobilize resources to help the survivors of the attack.

Most of the people of Wernyol were recently forced into refuge in Panyagor, the county headquarters. With the blessings of your kind generosity, which amounted to almost $9,000 US, we were able to send waves of funds to our representatives to ensure the accountable and safe delivery of food and other items to meet the basic needs of our community and prevent tragedy from escalating.

ACDP was founded to improve the educational, health, water, and other community needs focused on the quality of life. As a grassroots network, we are doing our best to supply the immediate support this community so desperately needs. We hope things will stabilize soon so that we may return to our greater mission.
ACDP has managed to raise remarkable funds for the survivors of the Wernyol massacre. Obviously, we could not have done it without you. The outpouring of support we received gives us hope for the future of our community.

Thank you once again for standing with the people of Southern Sudan, the Abek Community members – especially those who have been directed victimized by this tragedy – will remember you for your “tremendous generosity.”
